08.10.2026 - New ELLIS Fellows at the ELLIS Unit Stuttgart

With new Fellows recognised this year, the ELLIS Unit Stuttgart further strengthens its contribution to Europe’s AI research landscape.

The ELLIS Unit Stuttgart is pleased to announce the recognition of four researchers as ELLIS Fellows in 2026. These appointments reflect scientific excellence across foundational, methodological, and applied areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

ELLIS Fellows are selected based on outstanding research contributions and their commitment to advancing Europe’s AI research landscape. The 2026 cohort at the Stuttgart Unit represents a broad spectrum of expertise, ranging from autonomous systems and robotics to AI-driven applications in manufacturing and sustainable technologies.

Katherine J. Kuchenbecker - Robot Learning

Mathias Niepert - Learning Theory

Michael Pradel - Natural and Programming Language Processing

Sabine Schulte im Walde - Natural and Programming Language Processing

Together, their work spans theoretical advances, methodological innovation, and real-world AI applications. Their recognition in 2026 further strengthens the scientific profile of the ELLIS Stuttgart Unit and its contribution to the broader ELLIS network.
